Volunteer in South Africa - Community Based Projects
Caring in the Cape Community
This project is multifaceted as volunteers can be based at the organic farm in the morning, but can choose to work at other community projects in the afternoons. Volunteers will be taught how to do basic organic farming and have the opportunity to apply what they have learned into the surrounding community from planting to the market, while getting insight into the local culture.

This Way Up
Be part of this dynamic family-orientated organization enabling youth and young men with troubled pasts to catch up their education, and become citizens able to earn a living and to contribute to the communities they've come from. This is an excellent project for mature volunteers who can offer wisdom and insight to those they are working with. Run as a family, this home is a safe environment where young men (aged 17 – 25) are supported while they complete their schooling and get ready for the job market. There is a strong focus on reuniting the young men with family, and volunteers assist the Social Worker in establishing contact and visiting families.

Youth at Risk
Interact with teens and young adults at risk on the streets including being part of an educational program, assisting at a soup kitchen serving Cape Town's homeless every day, building developmental relationships with children at a home for boys, and using creativity to woo youth off the streets. The morning work is at the Soup Kitchen and involves serving food, but there are also opportunities for volunteers to initiate informal educational workshops. The afternoons are spent at a Home for Boys, mostly being a mentor and role model, helping them with homework and facilitating after school sports programs.
