INTREPID: California Dreamin' Trip

For two weeks I had the time of my life travelling off the beaten track around California, Arizona and Nevada. We soaked up the sun on the San Diego beaches and made a visit to the world famous zoo. Following the Colorado River we made our way to the Grand Canyon; swimming well into the night and sleeping under the stars on its banks. We went for a helicopter ride in the Grand Canyon, hiked into its magnificent depths, and sat together on the rim to watch the sunset light up the canyon walls. Excited and humbled by the awe of the Grand Canyon we made a bee-line for the bright lights of Vegas. After a party bus ride around the infamous strip we sought refuge in a club and danced the night away, seeing the sun rise over the Las Vegas Valley upon our exit. Exhausted from the Las Vegas atmosphere we buckled up and made our way north along the mountain ranges. We were cooked alive in the hottest place on Earth at the aptly named Death Valley and slept under the stars once again in Sierra, Nevada but not before we all took a night-time dip in the Sierra hot springs. We pushed further north to Yosemite, where we went hiking up waterfalls, swimming in lakes, and found ourselves standing in awe at some of the largest tree’s and chunks of granite mother earth has to offer.Heading west we made our way to San Francisco where we experienced the bohemian vibe of Haight Street, ate clam chowder on Fisherman’s Wharf, and exhausted ourselves trying to climb up Lombard Street and across the Golden Gate Bridge. Following the magnificent coastline we travelled south, stopping at many of the famous beaches and picturesque towns such as Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara and Carmel. I had the absolute time of my life on this tour; I did things I never would have thought I’d ever get the chance to do, I saw sights I never thought I would get to see, I met some amazing people along the way and became lifelong friends with the other people from the trip. I’d recommend an Intrepid to anyone visiting the United States; I guarantee you’ll love it. I know I did. Matt - Brisbane
